The Rapid Transitioning to Virtual Learning Environment in Saudi Arabia

Dear Colleague,

Covid-19 pandemic has greatly influenced education. The rapid and forced transitioning from in-person classes to virtual classes has had contributed to the continuation of learning process positively and/or negatively especially at the tertiary education. Authors are kindly invited to explore the best practices in the current conditions, uncover problematic issues related to this transitioning, address demands of teachers and learners and rethink/redesign teacher training.  You are kindly requested to submit a chapter proposal for consideration that corresponds with the main themes of the book.  Teaching and learning environments may never be the same with the intrusion of new digital tools to facilitate synchronous or asynchronous virtual, blended and flipped classroom environments. Furthermore, this book shall investigate the pandemic-related challenges and offer future recommendations and suggestions for streamlining the education process.

I am looking for chapter proposals addressing the following questions and topics:

Part 1: Social Contexts

  1. What is the current situation of education at local Saudi universities?
  2. What are the upsides and downsides of the rapid transitioning to virtual learning?
  3. What are the challenges faced by teachers while teaching virtually?
  4. What difficulties were faced by learners in the unprecedented pandemic?
  5. How the education experience is being evaluated?

Part 2: Transitioning to virtual learning

  1. What has facilitated transitioning from traditional to the virtual learning environments?
  2. What concerns and worries are expressed by teachers and learners after implementing the virtual learning environment approach?
  3. What alternatives can be implemented to treat the lack of face-to-face exposure in the current situation?
  4. How assessment reliability has been influenced?
  5. How curriculum design is affected by the method of courses delivery?

Part 3: Teacher Training

  1. What are the requirements and demands of teacher training in light of redefining virtual and traditional learning environments?
  2. How professional development sessions are ensured to meet the intuitional demands and academic individuals?
  3. What recommendations and suggestions were raised by faculty members for enhancing their experience with pandemic?

Relevant topics will also be considered. To submit a chapter proposal for consideration, please include the following:

  • Name Institutional/Organizational Affiliation
  • Biography (100 words)
  • Title of the proposed chapter
  • Abstract of the proposed chapter (300-400 words)
  • Proposal should not exceed 1500 words
  • Full chapter length 6000-7000 words
