Ibrahim Mohammad is an ELT researcher whose focus is on topics pertinent to English language learning and teaching. In addition, he mainly endeavours to investigate technology- and online-learning- related topics. Concerning his education level, he has two Master’s degrees and the recent one was completed at the American University of Armenia. Finally, Ibrahim has been teaching English for 8 years to all age categories and levels (online and offline) and this experience provided him with quintessential insights and questions to be investigated in his research.

Abstract

The use of video materials in the field of teaching English as a foreign language has been widely common. In recent years, videoconferencing-based learning platforms have been enhanced with interactive video tools which allow the learner to shift from a passive viewer to an active participant. This study aimed to investigate the effect of interactive video tools on the development of English listening and speaking skills in a videoconferencing-based EFL context and gauge the participants’ attitudes towards the interactive video tools. The study adopted a pre-test/post-test design involved applying and used two interactive tools _Edpuzzle and Flipgrid_ in the treatment group. The results of the speaking tests demonstrated significant improvement in the speaking performance of the treatment group participants. Nonetheless, based on the results of the listening tests, there was no significant improvement in their listening skills. Finally, the findings of the survey also revealed the students’ positive attitudes towards the two video tools.
