International Educators PTSI Research Journal (Post Traumatic Stress Injury)

Post Traumatic Stress Injury / Post Traumatic Stress Input

Introduction.

The landscape of  English language education is rapidly evolving, presenting both exciting opportunities and unique challenges for educators and students alike. While the benefits of learning a second language are well documented, there is a growing recognition that this process can also be a source of significant stress and emotional strain.

The International Educators PTSI Research Journal emerges from a groundbreaking exploration of a previously unexamined phenomenon: the potential for Post Traumatic Stress experiences within the realm of language learning. Our focus is twofold:-

Student PTSI (Post Traumatic Stress Input): We posit that the pressure and anxiety associated with acquiring a new language, (those learning English)  particularly in high-stakes environments, may trigger symptoms akin to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) traditionally associated with combat veterans.

Educator PTSI (Post Traumatic Stress Injury): The demands of teaching large classes, navigating online platforms, and managing diverse student needs can create a chronic source of stress for educators, especially for English language teachers and academics potentially leading to emotional and psychological burdens similar to those experienced by individuals with PTSD.

This journal seeks to break new ground by providing a dedicated platform for research that explores these possibilities. We welcome submissions from a wide range of scholars and practitioners, including:
• Educational psychologists
• Language acquisition specialists (academia and teaching)
• TESOL Teachers
• Mental health professionals
• Experienced educators and language learners

We are particularly interested in well-researched papers that address one or both of the following:

• Empirical studies investigating the prevalence and characteristics of PTSI-like symptoms in students and educators.
• Theoretical frameworks that illuminate the potential causes and consequences of these experiences in the language learning context.
• In keeping with the views expounded by Prof. Stephen Krashen, we suggest research articles be circa 3,600-4,000 words, but up to 7,000 is accepted.  https://connect.academics.education/index.php/mejtefl/article/view/106

We acknowledge the potential uneasiness surrounding this new field of inquiry. However, we believe that by fostering open and rigorous research, the International Educators PTSI Research Journal can serve two critical purposes:

• Validation: By acknowledging the emotional challenges faced by educators and students, we can provide a voice to those experiencing these stresses and offer them a sense of validation.
• Support: Through in-depth research, we can pave the way for the development of evidence-based strategies to mitigate stress and promote well-being within the language learning environment.

We invite you to join us in this groundbreaking exploration. By working together, we can shed light on a previously neglected aspect of language education and contribute to a more supportive and sustainable learning experience for all.

Research papers will be accepted from 1st May 2024.  Volume 1  is due  for publication November 2024. We use APA 7th edition indexing protocols.
