Aims and Scope

The journal (MEJTEFL) is based on current theory and research in the field of ESOL. It aims to address foreign language educators’ concerns at all levels. It focuses on the teaching practices and perspectives in the Middle East. The Journal accepts empirical research and systematic review studies on teaching and learning English as a foreign language at all education levels. It welcomes contributions in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  1. Teaching the 4 skills in Prep Year Programs: speaking/listening/reading/writing
  2. New Trends in Teaching English in the Middle East
  3. Evaluation and Assessment of English Language
  4. Language Testing and Evaluation
  5. Students in Transition: First Year Students Experience of English Language
  6. English for academic purposes
  7. English for specific purposes
  8. E-learning

Types of submissions

  1. Full-research articles (6000-8000 words)
  2. Brief reports (3000-6000 words)
  3. Review articles (2500-3500 words)

Over the past weeks we have been undertaking extensive teacher professional development in the field of English teaching in South East Asia, Japan and Korea. One of the themes that kept raising its head was the issue of culture underpinning English second language studies and the dichotomy of opinions ranging from the extensive effect culture plays in the classroom to the opposite view that culture does not play any role in language teaching.
